NTPC uses biomass pellets as a clean and sustainable fuel for co-firing in its coal-based power plants. These pellets, made from agricultural residues like rice husk, groundnut shell, and straw, help reduce carbon emissions and combat stubble burning. NTPC utilizes both non-torrefied and torrefied biomass pellets, with torrefied pellets allowing higher blending ratios due to their coal-like properties. These pellets burn efficiently, produce low ash and emissions, and align with NTPC’s goal of promoting renewable energy and reducing dependency on fossil fuels across its thermal power stations.
